Chef Richard Braunauer has spent the better part of his adult life in the culinary profession. Chef Richard has worked in several high-end establishments, including pastry shops, restaurants and hotels throughout his native Austria as well as in Switzerland and Canada. He has been a Chef Instructor at the Culinary Institute of Canada for the past 20 years. Chef Richard’s expertise lies in the field of pastry arts. He has won several international pastry competitions such as the Culinary Olympics in Germany, where he was a double gold winner; the Culinary Masters in 1989 and 1990; and various Atlantic hot and cold competitions.

Chef Richard has also participated in consulting and demo baking seminars in New York City, Boston, Berlin, several cities throughout Japan and many Canadian cities. Chef Richard has been actively involved in various associations such as the Canadian Chefs Association, the Canadian Pastry Guild, and the US Pastry Guild, and currently he is the National Chairperson for baking/pastry with Skills Canada.

As the coach, Chef Richard led the Canadian Youth Team to Germany for the Culinary Olympics in 2004, where they placed fifth, the best ranking ever for a Canadian team. In 2007, Chef Richard guided the latest incarnation of Youth Team Canada to victory at the World Grand Prix Championship held in Glasgow, Scotland.
